Thank you and goodbye

My oldest kid, who lives in Missouri, was out recently for a visit. He recognized that his grandparents were getting older and wanted to come while they were still alive and celebrate their presence in his life. In many respects, he wanted to say, “Thank you and goodbye” to them.

Are there people in your life who you’d like one more conversation with in which to thank? Are there people you wished you had had an opportunity to say, “Goodbye,” to but didn’t? I don’t have a magic wand to help us go back into time and create storybook endings with all of our relationships.

I just have these words to remind us: cherish people now. Tell people that you love them today. Celebrate the presence of loved ones before the funerals come.

Shalom, Paul
