Top 10 list of feelings I have about moving

We sold our house earlier this week but have this week to move from the old house to the new house. Each day after work we are moving the small fragile inside stuff plus my pots and plants. The movers come on Saturday to get the heavy and awkward things.

Here are some of the emotions/feelings/experiences I have had and expect to have this week – maybe you’ll recognize a few of these in this top ten list.

10. We are in the phase known as, “Honey, where is the…” I truly expect this stage to last a long, long time!

9. I also positively dislike the vast quantity of earthly possessions I possess. I am overwhelmed with all the stuff.

8. Newfound treasures – like voices from yesteryear – are delightful moments helping me rediscover my past. Some boxes can be unpacked in a matter of a few minutes, while others take a whole afternoon as I sit and remember the people and situations which each item causes me to recall.

7. Experience tells me something – Every move I have made (this is the 20th) we have lost something…that is…beyond our mental stability. That’s why the important stuff is going in the car with us. It is far more fun to blame the spouse than the movers.

6. Yes, my babies are going with me. I am digging up the plants that have important sentimentality to me and taking them with me. Yeah, I’ll probably get poked more times than I can count!

5. The previous resident of the house left a few nails in the wall which aren’t exactly in the perfect position for our hanging stuff, but the more tired I get, the better they are positioned.

4. My wife tells me that moving is oddly like childbirth in that in the post-move glow of enjoying your new home you forget HOW PAINFUL the entire process was for everyone involved. An epidural may be the answer!

3. I wonder…when I go to the DMV to get a new driver’s license, do I list my real weight?

2. I am sure I won’t be able to find things that are literally right in front of me. Literally. Like the times I look for my cellphone when it is in my hand or look for my glasses when they are on my head.

1. We are in the “eat everything in the fridge” from the old house, so we don’t have to move it to the new house stage. So, come on by if you want fish waffles with sweet relish, frozen okra, salsa and apple cider vinegar.
