Who are the veterans that you remember?

Veterans Day

My first memories of life are from Nellis Air Force Base where my dad was stationed. He was finishing up his 24+ years of service in the Air Force. With today being Veteran’s Day, we pause to remember and give thanks to those who have served and those who are serving. My uncle Paul, for whom I am named, also served in the Air Force – serving 22+ years. Their six brothers served in WWII. My mom’s three brothers also served in the military.

Who are the veterans that you remember? What do you remember about them?

Both my dad and my uncle learned many valuable skills in the military – some of which I was lucky to learn from them. They were always early; if you were on time, you were late! You work as a team. You do your part within the greater whole depending upon those around you to do their part. They both stood up for what was right. They ate quickly! My dad had a saying, “There are two kinds of people: the quick and the hungry.”

I’m grateful for my dad’s and my uncle’s service. I’m thankful for all who served and who are serving.

Shalom, Paul
