I have reached a milestone birthday: 60.

A milestone is a significant occurrence in life – it can be reaching a certain age, or it can be an event. Often a milestone marks the start of a new chapter. For example, the day you graduated from high school was a milestone in your life. Can you remember when you were finally old enough to get a driver’s license or drink alcohol (legally)?

This weaving of milestone events and age continues throughout life. Getting married, having kids, getting divorced can all be milestones. For some folks it’s turning thirty. One-half of a century (age 50) seems like a milestone. The birth of a grandchild qualifies.

This week, I have reached a milestone birthday – 60. In honor of this (old age) milestone, I would like to pause and have us consider how you and I use our time, talent, and treasure. Can we use 60 as a guide?

  • 60 seconds can change a person’s day with a kind word or expression.
  • 60 minutes can provide healing when we are listening to another’s pain.
  • 60 dollars given to charity can bless many people.

I give thanks for my milestone 60th birthday and that I get to experience this year with you!

Namaste.

Shalom, Paul
