As the fireworks are being prepared for America’s historic 250th birthday, how do we as progressive people of faith live into the future? On Sunday, July 5th, we will explore the theme of “Prophetic Patriotism.” Drawing from Matthew 11:28–30, we will discover that true love for our nation doesn’t mean offering blind allegiance to a static monument. Instead, our faith calls us to nurture America like a living tree—loving it enough to pull the weeds of injustice, tend to the wounded branches, and care deeply for the soil.
At The Church of the Palms, this isn’t just civic responsibility; it is the heartbeat of our faith. It is how we actively live out our mission of Sharing God’s Unconditional Love, Justice, and Extravagant Welcome. When cultural division and anxiety leave us feeling weary, Christ invites us out of isolation and into a yoke of partnership. Prophetic patriotism means we refuse to let fear dictate our gospel of radical hospitality. We choose instead to roll up our sleeves, pull together, and shine a light of mercy where the world has given up.
