How you can help Dysart Community Center

Dysart Community Center

NEW NEEDS:

Gas cards, which will be used for the two vans used to transport children to and from four area schools, are needed. After-school classes are very full. Doing the transportation of these children allows parents to get to work early while assured their children are being cared for.

ONGOING NEEDED DONATIONS:

Clothing for children and adults, jigsaw puzzles, board games, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, new hairbrushes, hair ties and hygiene items are always welcome for those the center serves. The center itself can always use paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning supplies.

ONGOING EDUCATION NEEDS:

Classroom assistants to help with homework, reading and arts and crafts at the El Mirage and Surprise sites are needed. Volunteers are needed on Mondays from 2-5 pm and Tuesdays through Fridays from 3:15-5 pm. The youngest children need the most help and are in small groups of two or three.

Tutors are needed for the GED class held Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. ESL tutors are always needed at a time convenient to the volunteer on a weekly basis for approximately two hours. This is one-on-one teaching to help with reading and writing in English. Materials are provided.

On the first Wednesday of each month help is needed from 7:30-10:00 am to help pack and pass out food to the community

FUTURE NEEDS FOR FUN EVENTS:

Monday, October 30, 3:30-5:30 pm is the Kids’ Halloween Party. Approximately 10 volunteers are needed to help pass our candy and snacks at the gym party with a bouncy house, games, and fun. Come in costume if you like!

Tuesday, November 21st, 12—2 pm is the Thanksgiving (Friendsgiving) Lunch. Ten volunteer servers are needed to help serve lunch for approximately 60 children.

Thursday, December 14th, 10 am—12 pm is a Wrapping Party for up to 20 volunteers to wrap presents, enjoy cookies, hot chocolate and each other.

Friday, December 22nd, 5-7 pm approximately 20 volunteers are needed to help set up, serve, pass out toys, greet families, serve hot chocolate and cookies and help with cleanup. All family members attend this fun event.
