Find joy in Advent music & poetry this Sunday 🎶

This Sunday marks one of the most soul-stirring occasions in our church year: the Sanctuary Choir’s Advent Musical Presentation! For many of us, music is a sacred pathway—a vital source of comfort and a profound avenue back to joy, especially when life feels heavy.

This week, we move beyond the traditional sermon format (a change that might delight a few!) to immerse ourselves in the Christmas story told through song and spoken word. We’ll raise our voices in beloved congregational carols, and the Sanctuary Choir, led by our dedicated Director of Music and Worship, Jennifer Hoppe, will share three special pieces reflecting their weeks of passionate effort. Let’s gather to deeply honor their commitment and hear the timeless narrative unfold.

Woven throughout the service, in between the choir’s moving music, will be six thought-provoking poems by Rev. Sarah A. Speed. These powerful words will explore themes essential to the Advent journey: the struggles against Herod, feelings of loneliness, the electricity of anticipation, the warmth of community, the meaning of home, and the power of our choices. They’ll guide us on this third Sunday of Advent, celebrated as Joy Sunday.

This beautiful, multi-sensory service is a wonderful chance to invite your friends and neighbors to experience the progressive spirit of our community. Come, let your soul be touched by music and poetry as we celebrate the approaching light.

I hope to share this Joy with all of you!

Shalom, Paul
