Why Palestine Matters

Save the dates:

February 24th, March 3rd, and March 17th

Fridays from 1:30 to 3 pm

At The Church of the Palms we began our journey of support for Tent of Nations and Palestinian human rights in 2018 after Daoud Nassar, who is a Palestinian Christian farmer, spoke to our church. We have engaged in additional learning sessions each year since. On February 24th, we will view a 10-minute film to introduce Tent of Nations and the Nassar family’s story. I will provide an update on the current status of their work and the now 33-year legal fight to maintain the ownership of their farm located outside of Bethlehem. I had the opportunity to be at Tent of Nations this fall for three weeks and will share some of my experiences.

On March 3rd, we will view the film Boycott which provides an extraordinary window into the Palestinian experience of living under occupation. The film also shares the story of three US citizens who, when forced to choose between their jobs and their political beliefs, launch legal battles that expose an attack on freedom of speech across America. Their stories illustrate the impact of legislation passed in 34 states – Including Arizona – which is designed to penalize individuals and companies that choose to boycott Israel due to its human rights record.

We will reserve March 17th for follow up discussion and exploration of questions arising from the previous sessions.
