Wear red for Pentecost this Sunday, May 24

This Sunday, we celebrate Pentecost—the vibrant “birthday of the church.” We remember the story of the Holy Spirit descending like tongues of fire, breaking down barriers of language and geography to unite a diverse community in a common vision.

In our progressive tradition, Pentecost is more than a historical event; it is a divine call to action. The same Spirit that stirred the early disciples compels us today to speak truth to power and pursue social justice. This “holy fire” burns away complacency, urging us to advocate for the marginalized, protect the vulnerable, and dismantle systems of oppression. It reminds us that our faith is not a quiet retreat, but a bold, public commitment to collective liberation.

To mark this powerful occasion, we invite everyone to wear RED—the liturgical color of the day representing the fire of the Spirit. As we fill the sanctuary with a sea of crimson, let it be a visible sign of our shared passion for a more just and loving world.

Shalom, Paul
