Multitasking

This week’s “Ponderings” was written by Rev. David Klingensmith.

David’s Discernings

Multitasking has been a popular term in recent years. We have all seen the images of someone trying to type, answer the phone, be on a Zoom call, and if working at home maybe chasing a child or pet out of the picture. And the multitasking often doesn’t end with the workday. There were times when I was working that I was expected to keep myself available even on vacation. True, I could put messages on my email saying that I was out of town and would respond when I returned, but as department manager I had to be available “just in case.”  That took some fun out of vacation!

One outcome of the pandemic is that lots of people have reconsidered the work they’ve been doing. Working from home made people rethink the whole meaning and purpose of work. They have assessed the value versus the stress, and some have left jobs that were not satisfying for others, or have even retired. It’s been called the Great Resignation. What did/does your work signify for you?
