Celebrating the Divine Tapestry: Mental Health Sunday

On May 17, our community gathers to celebrate Mental Health Sunday. It is a day to recognize that mental health is more than the absence of illness; as the World Health Organization defines it, it is a state of well-being that enables us to cope with stress, realize our abilities, and contribute meaningfully to our world.

Mental health is an integral component of our overall health and a God-given basic human right. It underpins our ability to build relationships, make sound decisions, and shape the society we share.

As we reflect on our well-being, we also celebrate the beauty of neurodiversity. Coined in the late 90s and championed by thinkers like Judy Singer and Nick Walker, this concept reminds us that “all brains are to a degree unique.” While the term is often linked to the study of autism—challenging the idea that differences are “deficits”—it carries a broader, more profound spiritual truth.

We view neurodiversity as a description of the awe-inspiring variations in our psychological composition. We are not a monolith; we are a diverse tapestry of human personality. This May 17, let us honor our unique minds and commit to fostering a community where every individual has the support to flourish.

Shalom, Paul
