Our mission statement begins with unconditional love. We’re going to need it this year. In my experience unconditional love is not something that just happens automatically like turning the page of a wall calendar. It is not inevitable. Every step toward making positive changes in our world, society, and church requires sacrifice and struggle; people like you and me in tireless compassion towards justice is required.

As we begin this new year, this new day, how will we apply ourselves? While far short of being Nostradamus, I predict that this year will require of us, from time to time, the courage to take a position that is neither safe nor popular, but most certainly necessary.

“What is needed is the realization that power without love is reckless and abusive and that love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.”  MLK Jr

I look forward to journeying into 2021 with you as we share God’s unconditional love.

Shalom, Paul
