We’re in a strange world, but letter writing is still a powerful tool with which to express our opinions. In my ministry infancy, I titled my written message to the congregation I was serving: A Letter from Paul. I liked the play-on-words of that title and it has stuck for the past forty years. I thought I was clever and funny; the jury is still out on that, but the importance of a letter has not lost its charm. A letter, a note, a word of cheer written down and sent is a timeless action from the heart.
Our Social Justice Advocacy Team is leading efforts to continue helping address homelessness in our community. After the closure of the very successful I-Help program due to federal financial cuts, alternatives to move forward with re-starting the program this fall are being considered. By taking just a little time and effort to reach out to our elected officials, we each can make a difference. The more correspondence received the more powerful our collective voice will be. Please send a short letter, note, or email to our elected officials expressing your opinion regarding this matter:

Thank you for making your voice heard. “Bee” the church!
Shalom, Paul
P.S. Did I mention that we will reimburse $1 for postage and stationery after the service this Sunday to everyone who sent a letter from home to an elected official this week. An anonymous donor will be giving out dollar bills in the narthex to folks who write notes this week as reimbursement.
Letter writing is still a powerful tool.
