Bible Study – Coming Alive with a New Spirit in 2023
In keeping with the spirit of our church’s theme for the year of “Coming Alive”, Jump Start Bible Study has a new name and a new time. The new name is “Inspirit – Bible Study & Discussion”. The new time is 3:00 to 4:30 pm on Tuesdays.
The new name “Inspirit – Bible Study & Discussion” was chosen to reflect how we spend our time together. The word Inspirit comes from the Middle English “inspiriten,” meaning “to stir (someone’s mind) into action.” According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary the word implies instilling life, energy, courage, or vigor into something or someone.
During our time together we read selected scripture verses from the Old Testament, Psalms, and the New Testament (generally a Gospel and an Epistle). The verses are ones prescribed in the lectionary. (The lectionary is a collection of readings arranged according to the Church’s calendar and are intended to be read at regular gatherings of God’s people; and one of which is used for our worship service sermon the following Sunday). We then read a short commentary, answer questions from the commentary, and engage in lively discussion about how the scripture applies to our lives’ today. The commentary and discussion questions can be found on the Bridges to Learning page of our church web page. In addition, these materials are sent, via email, to participants in advance of our time together, so you have an opportunity to review prior to our gathering.
