Annual community Thanksgiving meal

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th
beginning at 11:00 am

3 reasons that we host this community Thanksgiving meal every year:

  1. Provide an extravagant welcome to the community.
  2. Honor the memory of Joyce and Roy Spaulding.
  3. Have fun!

Last year, we accomplished the first goal by serving 137 plates of food. This would not have been possible without the many volunteers who provided food and gave their time to set up, serve, and clean up after the meal.

Many of the guests whom we served could easily have prepared and provided their own food. However, our culture says that Thanksgiving is a time to be with other people. For many Sun City residents, who often live far from loved ones, the connection to people we provide is priceless.

The church office receives notes each year after Thanksgiving, thanking us for the meal. One writer said they felt welcomed from the minute they were greeted in the parking lot to the time they left with a take-out box for a friend. Extravagant welcome accomplished!

Even though this is a lot of work, many volunteers say afterward, “I can’t believe how much fun I had.” If you’re interested in helping or learning more about this ministry, please see Wendy Whitlock and keep a look out for our sign up station on Sunday mornings.
